Places we stayed:
Place Comments Cost
Ai Ais,
Fish River Canyon
Clean ablutions, kitchen area with stoves.  There is little to no grass and only a few sites have trees.  Hot indoor pool and spa, basic restaurant, great views and walks along the Fish River canyon.  Sites have electricity. Cost varies hugely depending upon number in party and varying Conservation Levies.
Pre-booking is essential in holiday periods.
Hobas,
Fish River Canyon
Lovely treed campsite - no grass.  Sites have electricity BUT it runs off a generator which breaks down regularly.  Clean ablutions with hot showers only if the generator is working.
Klein Aus Vista A wonderful oasis in the desert.  New, clean ablutions.  Hot water is supplied by gas, so get the mix of hot and cold just right for a lovely shower. Splash out and have dinner in the cost restaurant or visit the friendly pub for a drink. N$100-00 for two persons.
Pre-booking is essential in holiday periods.
Duwisib Castle There's nothing here but a few big trees!  The ablutions are in a very poor state of repair and there is no hot water. N$200-00 for two including the fee for the Castle visit and the Conservation levies.
Arebusch Travel Lodge Clean ablutions with hot showers and a laundry with coin-operated washing machines and tumble dryers.  Caravan sites are under large shade net structures. N$110-00 for two persons per night.
Gross Barman Hot Springs A vast campsite with a few trees and no grass.  There are no electrical points, but they suggested we plug into the ablution block.  Ablutions were clean with hot showers. Hot spring, indoor hot pool and outdoor "normal" pool. N$110-00 for two persons per night out of season.
Alte Brucke Travel Lodge, Swakopmund WOW!  Grassed sites, each with new private ablutions (shower, handbasin and loo), washing-up area and braai.  Good security.  Worth the money! N$150-00 per two persons per night.
Mile 108 Right on the beach with the sea and fog rolling in.  There are no facilities to speak of; longdrop toilets and hot showers for limited periods.  We were the only ones there which is probably why we enjoyed it so much; it would hellish in holiday season. N$120-00 for two persons per night.
Palmwag Lodge, Damaraland Palmwag offers camping, tented and bungalow accommodation.  A lovely spot with a pub that serves wholesome food.  No electricity points at campsites. N$140-00 for two persons per night.
Khorixas Rest Camp This open campsite offers no privacy, but hot showers and electricity points are at each campsite.  Khorixas has a bank and a general fix-it workshop, but not much else. N$100-00 for two persons per night.
Acacia Campsite, Otjiwarango The lovely wall murals cannot make up for the lack of hot water in the kitchen or showers!  There is a laundry room.  No food on the premises, but there are a number of nice eateries in town. N$100-00 for two persons per night.
Kamanjab Campsite,
3kms outside Kamanjab
A lovely well-kept campsite.  Hot water for showers is from a donkey, so make sure to find out when the fire will be made; usually only in the late afternoon. A pleasant pub with the chance to see porcupines at night. N$80-00 for two persons per night.
Etosha National Park There are three campsites, all of which have their own waterhole, restaurant, kiosk and shop.  Hot water is usually available (you may have to scout around for the least crowded ablutions). Booking is essential in holiday seasons. N$180-00  for two persons per night.
Khorub Lodge, Otavi A lovely new campsite.  There are only two sites at this stage, each with it's own private ablutions.  There is a pleasant bar and meals are served in the restaurant if you want a night off.  Electricity, braai areas and a table with benches are provided. We recommend this one!! N$120-00  for two persons per night.
Roy's Camp,
north of Grootfontein
A well established campsite, rather open and with little privacy.  Ablutions are ethnic and interesting, but there's usually not water.  Electricity at some of sites, a friendly pub and restaurant all combine to make this a very pleasant stopover. N$100-00  for two persons per night.
Ngepi Camp,
14kms east of Popa Falls
Our best campsite yet!  Site 6 is the best as it is on the end and very private.  They have installed electricity on the sites since our last visit.  Sites are lawned and next to the river.  There is a busy pub and a kitchen that serves meals. The showers and loos are open-air and the water in the showers is usually hot.  Great birding, great atmosphere, great hosts! US$5.00 per person per night
Zambezi River Lodge, Katimo Mulilo An adequate place to spend the night.  It's site on the banks of the river is fabulous, and the bonus is that the sun sets over the river giving great views.  The ablutions are mediocre and the hot water ran out very quickly. N$120-00  for two persons per night.

Travel in Namibia is a pleasure if you are well prepared.  Distances are vast and there is little water in the majority of the country.  If you're organised, this is a wonderful country to explore!
