November 2003

The latest news is everything is progressing well - we're actually ahead of schedule!

Our new custom-built Unimog is literally "growing" before our eyes; more detailed information can be found on the link, OUR VEHICLE.

Sandy (that's me) has done most of the shopping already!  All the Tupperware and storage containers, the linen, the crockery and cutlery and other utensils are all ready and waiting to be put into the Unimog once it's finished - I even know where each item is going to be packed!

We both have invisible tattoos, having had five of seven vaccinations!  The only vaccination required by law is against Yellow Fever, but highly recommended for this kind of trip is also against Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, Meningitis, Polio and Tetanus.   We still have to go for a booster for Hepatitis in a month and again five months after that.  We did these early as they are effective for between 3 and 10 years and, if we have any side effects, they'll be over and done with long before we leave home.  Honestly though, the injections were pretty painless and neither of us have experienced any side-effects at all.  Our thanks to Marlene and Heather at the Netcare Travel Clinic at the Linksfield Clinic.

Planning and working on our trip is now a daily exercise; just a little job here and there has meant that we have suffered no stress at all, and are really getting excited as everything falls into place.

And just in case you were wondering, yes, we are counting the days; there's a countdown calendar pinned to a kitchen cabinet and Alan marks off the days each morning!
