The long and winding road South

-

The great thing about travelling back home on a similar route to the one we took going north, is that we get to revisit all the wonderful places we saw the first time around!-

-
After leaving Tanzania, we worked our way down and around Lake Malawi.  We met up with people we had seen just a few months before and some we had met the year before.  Summer is on it's way and the temperatures are beginning to rise - a swim in the lake is the perfect way to cool off!
-

-

We didn't spend too much time back in Malawi - Mozambique is the next stop and we'd rather spend our time soaking up the warm sun on a perfect beach and diving the pristine reefs around Barra and Tofu.  Crossing the border into Mozambique was somewhat troublesome; as we haven't such an experience before, it was a real shock!  Alan, however, talked quietly and patiently with the authorities for a very long time before they finally stamped all our pieces of paper of and off we went.

-
The drive was trouble-free and relaxing - the improvement in the roads in just six months has been phenomenal.  Yes, there are still lots of really bad stretches, but there are roadworks going on all over the place and speedy progress is being made.
-

-
Our only hiccup was when another vehicle forced us onto the extreme side of the road and into a huge pothole!  The accelerator cable jumped out of its holder and we lost all power!  We cruised to a stop and Alan soon found the problem and with his trusty Leatherman, had the cable back where it belongs and we were off again.
-
-
Once back on the familiar terrain of Barra Reef, we hooked up with friends and acquaintances for our previous visits.  We were also soon back in the ocean and exploring the depths.  We had some of our very best dives - octopus, cuttle fish, Batfish, Manta Rays and more!!
-

Christmas is now looming - it's already November - and the time has come for us to head home.  I think it's going to be very difficult to adjust back to life in just one place - but that will just have to be our next adventure!

-
Highlights:

Best meal: Seafood on the beach.
Best moment: Diving off the coast of Mozambique - again!
Worst moment: When the time came to pack up one final time and start heading back to Jo'burg - the end of our wonderful adventure.
